Auckland at 15: Reflecting on the Super City journey
In May 2025, the Committee for Auckland, in partnership with AUT, Deloitte and the Helen Clark Foundation, hosted Auckland at 15 — a milestone event marking 15 years since the amalgamation of Auckland’s councils into one ‘Super City’. The event brought together influential voices to reflect on what has been achieved and more importantly to set priorities for Auckland’s future.
The programme featured four panel discussions covering legacy and progress, international peer city perspectives, future issues, and an agenda for the next 15 years. A standout moment was the Leader’s Panel, which brought together Minister Simeon Brown, Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown, and former Prime Ministers Sir Rt Hon John Key and Rt Hon Helen Clark for a rare and insightful conversation on the progress of the Super City model and what lies ahead.
Auckland at 15 provided a platform for honest reflection and forward thinking, reaffirming the importance of collective leadership in shaping Auckland’s next chapter.
