Transporting Auckland Forward: From Summit to Action

Transporting Auckland Forward: From Summit to Action

By Rupert Hodson, Executive Director – Committee for Auckland

Following our recent Transporting Auckland Forward Summit, we are pleased to share the resulting report ‘Transporting Auckland Forward: A Call to Action’, developed in partnership with Infrastructure New Zealand.

The summit brought together leaders from across government, business, and the civic sector. It was good to have representative from all parliamentary parties, both to participate in, and hear the consensus at the summit. The message was consistent: Auckland does not need further diagnosis — it needs alignment, commitment, and pace.

This report reflects that shared view, setting out clear priorities including making better use of existing infrastructure, progressing key rapid transit corridors, and better aligning growth with transport investment.

These themes have also featured in recent media coverage, including discussion on RNZ’s Nine to Noon, where I joined Infrastructure New Zealand Chief Executive Nick Leggett to reflect on the opportunity ahead — and the importance of moving from agreement to action.

There is broad alignment on what needs to be done. The focus now must shift to delivery.

With a general election approaching, this report is intended as a constructive contribution to the national conversation and a call for clear, long-term commitment to Auckland’s transport future.
