HomeGround Site Tour
Committee for Auckland members had a very special tour recently of the Auckland City Mission’s remarkable new HomeGround building. The $110 million purpose-built care and compassion facility on the Mission’s original Nelson street site will be unlike anything New Zealand has seen, providing integrated wrap-around services and accommodation for some of central Auckland’s most vulnerable people.
It will provide 80 apartments: 40 for those most in need of care and 40 social housing places. It will also provide a new medical centre and pharmacy, a social and medical detox unit as well as community meeting, private function and training spaces. The 9 storey structure will also be the tallest timber building in New Zealand. The Committee would like to thank Built Environs for organising the visit and for the City Mission’s team for their support. The Mission still needs to raise a bit of $2m to meet their fundraising targets.
